A.P.B.A. Stock Outboard Racing

Wienandt Performance Technology has years of experience and success in the APBA Stock Outboard Racing Category. We also have many National Championships and have served in a consultative capacity to many stock outboard racers. We work on any of the Mercury 15,  OMC 15, Yamato 80, 102 and 302  engines along with the Mercury 44XS. For the Stock category we offer the following services.

Blue Print Porting. One question that you may have is “What does blue print porting really mean?” The Stock Outboard Category is derived from production fishing engines.  All manufacturers work with tolerances in the manufacturing system. Porting is one item that has loose tolerances. Blue printing the ports means basically two things:

  •    First, it means making all the ports the same height and/or size.
  •    Secondly it would be moving them to the side of the tolerance to gain a performance advantage.

When considering porting you should ask yourself the following questions: Should it be a high port engine or should it be a low port engine? Or is the mean spec the best place if they were just placed accurately enough?

What you are asking us to do is to layout your block; and, we must see where the ports are first. Many are not correctable or even legal.  Our measuring system can identify these areas. Then we form a game plan on how we can improve your block. And it always depends on what we have to start with. There is no set spec, unless we start with a new sleeve with no ports. This is an option and a requirement for blocks that may initially be compromised. We cut ports for two major reasons:

  1. Experience in machining ports to meet APBA specs.
  2. Knowing which side of the tolerance the port should be placed.

Complete Machine Shop Services. We can perform any standard machine shop type work required.

Dyno Technology. We have Dyno setups for J, A, 25 and D with dedicated drive shaft housings all prepared.
See Outboard Dyno section.

Bench Evaluation: Disassemble, evaluate all measurements and document only. No charge with Race Prep. Reassemble after cleaning parts if further work is not done by WPT. If/When we prepare your race engine, the above is not charged. It is part of doing it right. We need to know what you need first.

Dynamometer Break-In Service: Highly recommended. Our test facility can do the break-in of your engine better and in more controlled conditions than can be done on a boat. This saves you time as your engine is delivered to you with knowledge that it runs correctly and is race ready.

Dynamometer Service: Racers may come to our facility or ship engines to WPT for Dyno tuning and evaluation of many engines in a days time. See which of your engines is better and tune the best performance out of each one. Fuels, Jetting, Timing and even Spark Plugs, are things you can now verify with solid data, no longer just opinion.

Providing Us With Equipment: You need to provide good parts to work from and WPT can prepare Quality, Legal Race Engine using techniques acquired from 25 years of preparing race engines. Each engine is prepared to the best of the ability of the parts provided. New parts will be recommended when required. It is our goal to make every engine, a winning engine.
